Content marketing is the most cost-effective way to drive traffic to pages and capture new leads. Publishing content on a consistent basis over a long period of time pays off.
6 Steps to Write High-Quality Content
Take this step-by-step approach to writing high-quality content. The key is to plan your content calendar, write, proofread, edit, then publish.
1. Find your keywords and keyword phrases.
For the lowest competition keywords, use the keyword golden ratio. This ratio works by targeting keywords that are less popular – which helps you rank high fast when used in your content. To perform your keyword research try SEMRush or Google Trends is free.
2. Research your topic.
Google similar businesses and research the type of content they’re writing about. Pay attention to headers, subheaders, and structure. When you decide on your topic, be sure to cover any and all relevant subheaders that would support your content.
3. Create an outline with subheaders.
Don’t do the writing in the outline, just work on the outline. Think of the outline as a way to structure your content. Include any subheadings or points you intend to cover. A good rule of thumb is no less than 4 – 5 subheadings.

4. Write the content by filing in the subheaders.
Write the introductory paragraph last. Start by writing the body for each of the subheadings of the outline. And as you’re writing the content, don’t worry about editing or getting it perfect. This step is meant to get your thoughts on paper.
5. Proofread and edit.
Now that you have the body, proofread what you’ve written. A good trick is to read aloud – to see if it makes sense. If it doesn’t sound right, go back and fix it. Correct any spelling and grammar mistakes. And, make adjustments for tone – which means being mindful of your audience and writing in the voice of your readers.
Rinse and repeat to enhance the overall flow of your content and make it more fluid.
6. Don’t forget about link building.
There are three types of link building – internal links, external links, and backlinks. To build internal links, link to other posts or pages on your website. External links take viewers away from your page. With external links, it’s important that you link to credible sources. Let’s say you were quoting something you read online – you’d want to link to the original article. Sites considered credible sources are those like Fobres and Kiplinger.

Now, backlinks are when others link to content on your website. Forbes and Kiplinger just got a backlink above.
Link building is all about a network of links across the web. Internal and external links help web crawlers read and understand what your website and pages are about. And, the more backlinks you have – the more credible you appear to search engines.
